Burglars Target Blencoe Farmers Elevator Office
Monday night burglars forced entry into the Blencoe Farmers Elevator main office and broke the gate with crowbars. Nels A. Christensen a 66 year old former Alta postmaster pleaded guilty after opening statements in Sioux City federal court. He admitted falsifying records to obtain 1000 dollars in postal savings belonging to Tillie Anderson of Alta who later died and received a six month prison sentence from Judge Henry N. Graven.

Second of Seven Brothers Is Missing
OTTUMWA Second Lieutenant Henry Lyman, 33, one of seven Lyman brothers in the armed forces, has been missing in action in Germany since Oct. 3, per parents Mr and Mrs T K Lyman. The notice comes a year after Harry Lyman, seaman first class in the coast guard, was electrocuted on duty in Brooklyn. Lieutenant Lyman went to England with his reconnaissance outfit last January.

Driver charged in bicycle accident death of 12 year old
Louis Lange Jr. 17 Monticello faces man slaughter charge in the Hopkinton bicycle crash that killed Kenneth Smith 12 on Highway 48. Mrs. James K. Zeck 85 of 417 East Main street died this morning at Washington county hospital after years of hip fracture recovery. Funeral arrangements are with LA Jones Funeral Home. service led by Dr. Fred B. Miller at Elm Grove Cemetery. Surviving husband James K. Zeck, son Ralph Zeck, six grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. Zeck was a longtime Washington county resident and church member active in the Ladies Aid and Missionary society.

Sergt. Dawson Missing in Action in World War II
Staff Sergeant Harold Dawson, son of Mr and Mrs Clyde Dawson, living seven and a half miles southwest of town, is listed missing in action. He served as a gunner on a B 24 Liberator and is believed to have been lost in the Asiatic theater on Oct 9 after flying from a base in China. The last letter from him was dated Oct 7 and arrived after the telegram. He had served over two years in the Army Air Corps and overseas since June of this year.
