The League of Nations Council adopted a resolution urging China and Japan to appoint representatives to arrange the evacuation of Japanese troops from Manchuria. The plan runs to November 16. Japan’s counter proposal was rejected 12 to one, and the two plans required a unanimous vote to become effective. Memorial Bridge Opens Over New York and New Jersey

Mine payroll stolen near Des Moines by masked bandits
Clover Lea James Christianson and Joseph Jack, owners of the Clover Leaf Foal mine southeast of Des Moines, were ambushed while transporting payroll. Three unmasked bandits bound and gagged them, taking the money in a briefcase. The men were discovered bound hours later when four boys on a hunt found them and alerted authorities.
