Fairfield police say 18 year old James McShane was wounded by a bullet during a scuffle as officers attempted to arrest him at a used car lot. McShane was in fair condition with a chest wound after the struggle in which an officer fired a gun while pulling him from a car. The car allegedly contained stolen tires and McShane had prior burglary convictions.

Burglars Take $1125 From Schools in Iowa
In northwest Iowa burglars struck Sloan and Salix schools over the weekend taking about $1125 from two safes. The Sloan Consolidated School lost about $9090 and Salix Consolidated about $125. Additional burglaries in Galva Holly Springs and Pierson schools and two bowling alleys in Storm Lake and Cherokee were reported Friday with smaller sums.
