Private Marvin R. Lambert, patient at Harmon General Hospital Lone View Texas, received the Purple Heart from Major General Norman T. Kirk for wounds on Okinawa. Formerly with the 307th Infantry Regiment 77th Statue of Liberty Division Lambert was wounded May 19 and returned to the United States in June. He is on a 45 day furlough visiting his parents Mr and Mrs Ray Lembert of Winfield.

Members of Leon Beatty post plan to attend the county meeting at Brighton gather at the Legion room in City Hall at 7 30 this evening. Veterans or recently discharged men are invited to join. It is hoped a large group from Washington will travel to Brighton for the session.

District court here delayed the opening of the Madsen trial, a case stemming from the 1942 slaying of Henry Madsen a 4 West Branch farmer. Mrs. Madsen, held in state hospitals since the crime, was released recently by district court order and the state opposed the release.
President Truman called for universal military training for all young men starting at 18 or on high school graduation to build peace through power. He outlined a postwar structure with a small regular force, strengthened reserves, and a general male citizen reserve trained for one year, without education or other exemptions.
