Cedar Rapids firemen contained a stubborn blaze at the Waconia sorghum mills five miles southwest of here. The fire engulfed the outside of a huge pile of baled cane stored to feed cattle in a nearby barn, believed to have started from spontaneous combustion. William L. Statler 79 died at his Brighton home Saturday night after a short illness and a heart attack. Born near Piqua Ohio he lived on a Brighton farm before opening a blacksmith and wood shop for 63 years. Survived by wife Belle and two children Merle and Lucille, plus sister Mary Madison. Funeral Tuesday at 2:30 at Presbyterian church with burial at Hillcrest cemetery.
