Lincoln elementary students in Washington are collecting Campbell product labels to fund audio visual equipment for the school library. No money changes hands. Campbell recycles the labels. The drive runs until early January and volunteers may drop off labels or request pickup.
Generalissimo Francisco Franco is in critical condition with endocarditis at age 82. Sources say he may abdicate to his designated successor Prince Juan Carlos de Borbon, 37, as Spain's ruler for 36 years.
The forecast calls for a fair night with a low around 45 to 50 degrees and light westerly winds about 5 mph. Wednesday will be partly cloudy with a high in the 70s.
Volunteers raising 250000 for Halcyon House in Washington receive a 1.75 gift from Stacy Anne and Jerry Sturdevant. The donors describe toy-selling effort and offer a heartfelt prayer for the center’s residents, asking others to pray and share hope.
A deputy associate FBI director testified that an agent destroyed a note from Lee Harvey Oswald two hours after Oswald was pronounced dead. The note, authorities say, had no known link to the Kennedy assassination. The agent said his supervisor ordered the destruction and that the Dallas office officer had no knowledge of the note's fate.
Iowa Agriculture Secretary Robert H Lounsberry said the department analyzes corn samples from elevators in Iowa after mold reports in southeast Nebraska northeast Kansas and southwest Iowa. He cautioned not all molds are hazardous and expected results Tuesday afternoon.

The council approved a Thursday November 6 auction at 1 p.m. for a 42 acre landfill south of town on W47, nine acres larger than thought. City records show the land bought in 1964 for 110 dollars an acre. A public hearing set for November 3 covers the sale, with a second hearing on 16th Street lots offered to abutting owners at 500 per lot.
Washington officials expect the Soviet Union to purchase 6 to 7 million tons of U.S. wheat and corn from the current crop after a five year pact to stabilize grain purchases. The embargo was lifted as negotiations continue on Russian grain imports.

Calves are vaccinated for five diseases and dehorned, weaned, and ear tagged as part of the program sponsored by the Washington County Cattlemen's Association.
