Car Stolen From Melody Lanes Spurs City Police Probe
A white and gold 1971 Monte Carlo owned by Rick Stauffer was reported stolen from a Melody Lanes parking area Wednesday evening. Debbie Reinbold saw the car and police are investigating. The same edition notes a "car smash" fundraiser at the Washington YMCA tonight by Washington High School DECA to raise convention funds. Anyone may swing at a car from 6:30 to 9 p.m. locally.

Washington High hosts all state auditions for band chorus orchestra
Washington High School will host district auditions for the all state band chorus and orchestra on Saturday October 6 with about 980 students from 50 area schools competing. About 1095 will be selected for the three all state groups with 20 percent rehearsing in Des Moines November 29 and November 30 in Des Moines and Ames. The final festival concert is at 730 PM November 30 in Hilton Coliseum Iowa State University. Burge Hammond principal is district audition manager. Judy Ridley named outstanding part time coordinator of adult education in Town 1974. She coordinates classes for Kirkwood Community College in Washington County and is state winner via IAPAE.
