The death of Mrs Hermina Hain of Davenport at 64 follows injuries from a Sept. 15 automobile wreck. Funeral in Davenport then Washington with burial in Oak Ridge. Born Sept. 17 1889 in Dutch Creek, she married Harry Hain in 1910 after earlier marrying Joseph Richardson. Survived by four children, two stepchildren, six grandchildren.
Farmers approve a federal corn hog production control plan by a two to one margin. The AAA says a replacement program for 1935 will be prepared and offered before Christmas. Tentative planting limits suggest 0 to 96 million acres, near this year's acreage, and reflect a total of 527,888 producers voting with 356,212 in favor.
Corn is being shipped into drouth areas and sold for 6 cents a bushel, ten cents above Chicago prices. Director Charles P. Reed of the Town Weather and Crop Service says little corn will be produced in central and western counties, with fodder cutting accelerated by the dry spell. Importation for feed is necessary as rain is needed.
Cooler weather settles over Iowa with forecasts of unsettled conditions. Federal Meteorologist Charles Reed predicts a drop in temperatures and possible continued unsettled conditions into the rest of October.
A Davenport area crash left two women injured when their car, driven by Walter Hain Tipton, was struck from behind by Ben Kelling’s vehicle. Kelling faced a reckless driving charge and was released after authorities found no criminal intent.
Lester B. Krabill released the Washington county teachers institute schedule to be held Monday October 22 at the high school. Principal lecturer Dr H J Thornton of the State University of Iowa will speak on history interpretation and education streamlining. Howard L. McCleery is appointed to represent the Production Credit Association in Washington County. The PCA takes over work from the Regional Agricultural Credit Corporation and makes loans for livestock and feeding purchases under supervision. The Wellston store suffered a nighttime burglary discovered by owner J. A. Mayer. Entry breached the front door, with the burglar consuming baked beans, salmon, milk, cheese and peas. The adjoining warehouse was also entered but nothing stolen.
District representatives from Washington attend the Odd Fellows and Rebekah grand lodge in Mason City. He lists assets of 14835 dollars and liabilities of 29163 dollars, the farm property as principal asset and secured loans as main liability. Attorney is Lewis Kehoe of Washington.

In Detroit Edward Liekwala, 20, confessed to writing a note to Ford threatening $5,000 payment. In Chicago a youth, Dominick Bansano, confessed to an alleged $3,000 extortion attempt against Isaac Hoagland of Armour & Company, threatening harm to Hoagland’s daughter.
The family of Louis Esposito, 23, held for 20000 dollars, refused police aid after being warned by the kidnapers. Esposito, son of a Bronx junk dealer, disappeared last night and his abandoned ear was found.
In New York on October 17 Judge Ernest Hammer denied trono Hauptmann a writ of habeas corpus challenging extradition to New Jersey. The ruling leaves Hauptmann subject to extradition procedures already set in motion by New Jersey authorities.
