Fairfield city engineer Amiel Reichstein told the council Tuesday night that within days the city may restrict water use unless October rains arrive. The emergency well currently supplies only about a third of the needed water.

Y A Morgan, 60, once with Olds Sr bank, was sent to Fort Madison penitentiary to begin a two year term for embezzlement. The trial on larceny ended after decision to drop an appeal from the embezzlement conviction.
Clifford Gutel, 22, of Storm Lake, indicted by Olmsted County grand jury on two counts robbery in the second degree and kidnapping. He was arrested at Byron State Bank in August while attempting a bank holdup with Clarence Doty pulled in as a shield.
A murder charge was filed in the district court at Albia against Ernest Dibrell Negro accused of fatally wounding Walter Powers in a Rexfield altercation. Powers died Tuesday after the Monday fight.
Senator Louis Murphy of Dubuque left Mercy hospital Burlington to address a Democratic meeting in Keokuk Tuesday night and returned immediately. He expects to leave the hospital again soon for another speech.
Mrs Kleese Hartman and Mrs George Ferguson depart for Des Moines to attend the funeral of their brother Ernest Singmaster who died yesterday morning at 9. Services are set for 2 50 PM at the Singmaster Rome in Des Moines. Born in Washington on September 11 1872 he was the son of Allen and Kate Singmaster and is survived by his wife and two daughters Marvelle and Sohala.
Sheriff Daryl Mathers arrested Jim Trent and Clifford Davis of Wellman on tire theft probes. Trent was questioned and released due to his wife illness. Davis remains jailed. One wheel and tire, identified as Henry Hagist’s, was recovered from Trent’s car. Davis allegedly found the wheel and tire and said Trent received it from Davis. Investigators have been tracking thefts in Wellman for weeks.
Mrs. Thomas J. Reese, president of the Iowa City Women's club, was elected director of the first district of the Iowa Federation of Women's clubs at the district convention. Mrs. Kimi Hesselschwerdt winds up a four year term. The convention drew 14 registrants with 114 from out of town and 76 from Washington.
