Reuben Herman, a 41 year old New Albin farmer, was found guilty by Judge Edward McManus on two counts of income tax evasion for 1965 and 1966. Sentencing awaits a pre sentence investigation after he pleaded innocent to owing more than eight thousand dollars on income exceeding forty three thousand dollars.

Open House Planned for U P Home Anniversary Event
The UP Home in Washington marks its years with an open house on October 24 from 2 to 4 30 pm inviting the public. The facility began in 1947 after the Illinois synod looked for a retirement home site and expanded to serve about 140 elderly by 1971. Superintendent Dick Colby notes the home is non denominational, with cottages expanding living space and a growing community of residents, Sages, and staff, while maintaining a policy to admit only those who can care for themselves and health permits. Visitors will tour main buildings and cottages with refreshments and parking at Immanuel Lutheran Church.
