Final 1943 Wapello County salary payments delayed
County Auditor Joe Ferguson reports 1943 salary payments for Wapello County employees were made from the general fund on Friday. The fund will be exhausted until January 1944 after increases approved by the state legislature. County supervisors plan a new bond issue on January 1 to cover current debts in the general and maintenance funds.

Des Moines Club Owner Pleads Guilty in Whisky Shipment Case
Des Moines nightclub operator Peter Rand and accomplice Reno Chiesa pleaded guilty to illegal transportation of liquor before District Judge Dwight Rider in Fort Dodge. Rand received a $1000 fine plus costs and a suspended jail term. Chiesa was fined $300 with costs and a $50 county attorney fee. They were arrested Sept. 14 in a pickup with 60 cases of whisky Rand called "the best."

Four year old Janelle Stueve daughter of Mr and Mrs Arthur Stueve of FMMETSBURG was killed when she ran under a wagon her brother was driving while picking corn. The tragedy occurred Friday on the family farm.
