Bank Robber Given 10 Year Concurrent Sentences
Jackie Lee Bixler 27 of Council Bluffs was convicted of robbing four Omaha banks to fuel his drug addiction. U.S. District Judge Robert V. Denney sentenced him to 10 years to run concurrently on the four counts and ordered drug therapy and schooling while incarcerated. The judge noted Bixler’s drug descent began in Vietnam and explained he could have faced up to 80 years but chose concurrent ten-year terms.

Step up fund raising grows with PAC contributions
DES MOINES UP I records show special interest funding made up 30 percent of Democratic campaign contributions and 10 percent of Republican donations in the last three months. The PAC activity boosted total collections to 587700 dollars. Officials said the contributions were legal and carried out by political action committees created to allow corporations unions and other entities to participate in political undertakings.

County hospital trustees raise room charges
Washington County Hospital trustees voted to raise daily room charges for the acute hospital and increased Long Term Care LTC rates. A Hazel Sitler motion set a $7 rise in acute hospital rates bringing semi private rooms to $60 and private rooms to $65 per day, effective in about 30 days. ICU daily cost climbs from $115 to $125 while LTC rates jump $2 to $18 per day.
