Record price for farm land in Seventy-Six Township
Eighty acres in Seventy-Six Township Washington County sold for a record high 2000 dollars per acre at a public auction. The three parcels were sold by Dick Hagist for the Forrest Green Trust. Buyers included J R Gretter and F W Gretter for the 80 acre tract, Jim Bell paid 1750 per acre for 40 acres, and Gene Hammen bought 160 acres at 1550 per acre. Total price 478000 dollars.

A team of American medical missionaries returning from Honduras alleges relief supplies airlifted for hurricane victims are confiscated by Honduran officials and sold on the black market. They described officials hoarding food to sell at high prices, and a visiting Red Cross team stealing clothes. The claims are denied by Honduran authorities.

UPI reports Ed Sullivan, longtime CBS television host of The Ed Sullivan Show, died Sunday at Lenox Hill Hospital from esophageal cancer. He helped introduce Elvis Presley and the Beatles to American audiences and began in show business as a newspaper reporter before rising to fame on CBS.

The 4 H Convention at Washington High School closed National 4H Week with 675 members in Washington County. Craig Dare led the installation of the 1974 4 H Council with elected members from Washington and Brighton. Prison picnic at West Virginia Penitentiary draws families
Wives mothers and children traveled hundreds of miles to attend the first ever inmate family picnic at the 108 year old West Virginia Penitentiary in Moundsville. Inmates shared meals, played with sons and watched boxing while guards secured the facility after the event.
