The twenty-ninth annual state dental clinic at the University of Iowa will be held November 4 and 6. Dean Alvin W. Bryan of the college of dentistry announced the schedule and invited all practicing dentists in the state to attend.
OsKaloosa witnesses Dr. T. Koo of Shanghai address the high school auditorium urging Americans to reject hatred of Japan. Representing the Institute of International Understanding he notes Japan’s people do not seek conflict and cites troops under police orders being sent toward China.
Newton Mason City hosted the Iowa Commercial Organization Secretaries spring convention. A committee led by Sam Stump of Fort Dodge recommended allocating gas tax revenue to street repair and paving maintenance, proposing about 976000 dollars annually.
An Atlantic jury found E. J. McDermott, a former feed salesman, guilty of forgery after over six hours of deliberation. Information against Fred R. Brown, another feed salesman, on the same charge was dismissed.
Hopkins state director of the PWA said Roosevelt has closed the door on grants for a new old peoples dormitory at the county farm. The project may be submitted at a special election if the county proceeds without PWA aid.
Robert Merryman 18 son of W and S Merryman business manager of the Fort Dodge Messenger leaves for a four month journey around the world. He will sail on Danish tramp steamers and aims to visit Shanghai and other Chinese ports.
Fort Dodge news notes Ellis Eno, and her mother-in-law Mrs A KR Eno, both women in the Eno family achieving solo and private pilot qualifications. The pair represent a growing trend of female aviators in the region.
Dedication services for the new $20 000 Guthrie Center city hall were held. The building houses a community hall library fire hall American Legion quarters council chamber and public rest room. F L Charter city clerk was master of ceremonies and Fred W Masters represented the city council.
Webster reports Beam Manufacturing Co. begins producing washing machines with George P. Castner as president. Full capacity not reached for weeks. initial output includes a few machines, with a daily capacity of 200 expected after January 1 and a workforce of at least 50.
Only three Civil War veterans attended the twenty eighth annual reunion of the Black Hawk County Civil War Veterans association. From Waterloo were ikenny Woore commander of the Robert Anderson post G. A. R. and Peter Woodring. John FE Coleman represented Parkersburg.
James Dalhover, the sole survivor of the Al Brady gang, was escorted by armed federal agents and police as he boarded a government plane in Bangor, Maine, for extradition to Indiana to face murder charges. Calhover, who led the raid, waived extradition after providing information on the gang killings.
In Sigourney on October 14 the state case against Arthur Anderson of Washington charged with statutory rape went to the jury after a week of testimony. Jurors received the case at 9:40 this morning and had not reached a verdict by 2 pm.
Mrs Elliott Moses left yesterday afternoon after visiting her parents Mr and Mrs B W Livingston. She planned to stop in Chicago before proceeding to New York City.
The Y is preparing a Mid West regional conclave with 100 to 200 Y's Men and Ladies from Duluth to St. Louis and Chicago to Lincoln. Local committee members include Ed Morrison Roger Sherman R E Arthur Clarence Logan Dick McCleery and Dr W D Dwyer. Regional Director Ed Casper of Chicago has handed details to the Muscatine club.
Watertown Wisconsin October 14 Arthur Turkey Gehrke known as hibernator for 27 years has retired to his bedroom above the tavern and will remain in winter sleep until spring Meals reach him by dumb waiter and reports say he rarely stirs until warm weather returns, as he locks himself away during cold snaps.

Clayton Conrad of Marshalltown suffered a severe right hand amputation after his hand was caught in a corn picker roller at the Woodburn farm in Washington County. The injury occurred about 9 o’clock this morning while he was clearing cornstalks. Conrad, son of George and (Mrs.) Conrad, had been working at Leo Marie farm and Woodburn farm this week. this marks the second similar accident in two days following James Chorpenning’s left hand loss eleven miles northwest of Washington yesterday.

S C Pearson of Ainsworth and Ed N Alban of Waterloo collided on primary road No 2 at Ainsworth yesterday afternoon. Both drivers were alone and uninjured. Pearson was westbound and turning into a filling station when he struck Alban, who came from the west. Alban’s car left the road into a ditch.
Funeral services for Robert Charles Sojka will be held at St James Catholic church Friday at two o clock. Burial follows in Elm Grove Cemetery. The baby, born February 4 1937, had been in poor health and died at Mercy Hospital in Kansas City. The body arrives tonight. Surviving are parents George and Agnes Sojka and one brother Donald.

Centerville Iowa report tells of Alfred Hain who was buried in two graves after a farming accident. Doctors initially predicted death but Hain survived, and embalmed organs were later buried in grave No 1. When he died, he was buried in grave No 2 at Concord church yard.
