Burglary Charged in Washington County Incident
Michael E. Buck of Washington faces aggravated burglary charges after a burglary at Annie Beal’s home 616 South 8th Avenue. Buck, 20, was found armed with a 22 caliber revolver and held on 5000 dollar bond. Preliminary hearing set for October 24 in Washington County Magistrate Court. Officers Ben Hodge and Tonnie Crile arrested him after responding to a 2:14 a.m. call. Beal trapped Buck by closing a window on his hands until police arrived.

Knights of Columbus fund drive aids retarded citizens
The Washington Council of the Knights of Columbus turned over 1128.30 in public contributions from their second annual Tootsie Roll fund drive to the Washington County Association for Retarded Citizens. Ten percent of the 1254 raised went to the state K of C for distribution where no councils exist, with the remainder presented at a Columbus Day breakfast to Paul Swank, ARC president. Deputy Grand Knight Curt Mineart delivered the presentation, and Grand Knight Eugene Reed thanked county contributors.

A Valparaiso man, Terry L. Snider, 21, is held on $20,000 bond in Washington County jail after being arraigned on robbery with aggravation for an armed Sunday night holdup at the Jack & Jill Store in Washington. Police recovered the cash and a .25 caliber pistol used in the crime. Police chase ended near Jack Hamilton's Clubhouse with Snider surrendering without a struggle.

Budget boost for sheriff funds TRACIS system and 24 hour radio
