Brighton Bicentennial Quilt Club stages block supper
The Brighton Bicentennial Quilt Club held a Friday evening potluck at St. Joseph's church hall in East Pleasant Plain to mark the quilt block deadline. Daryl Smith urged introductions as quilters explained their blocks while humor and camaraderie filled the room. Forty-two blocks are needed. thirty-eight were shown, with stories, unfinished works, and a memorial block for Ocean Irwin prompting thoughtful discussion. The project aims to assemble the final quilt this winter and display frame and hanging plans.

Six inmates recaptured after Indiana prison break
Six inmates seized Warden Leo Jenkins his wife daughter and a guard as hostages at Indiana State Prison, overpowered staff with a revolver, fled in a station wagon, were pursued by police and recaptured after a crash near Michigan City. One inmate suffered a knee wound and a guard was lightly injured.
