Larry Wilson, 16 months old, son of Mr and Mrs Harry Wilson of Curlew, was in critical condition after he ran in front of a tractor his father was driving. The infant sustained a severe head injury but no broken bones.
M C Carstensen of Shenandoah was elected president of the Iowa Baptists at the 104th annual state convention in Marshalltown. Vice president chosen was Mrs S T Shumate of Davenport with Asa C Pope of Sac City as recording secretary and F L Grosbeck of Des Moines as treasurer. The convention urged action toward national prohibition in a resolution opposing the liquor traffic.
Service men and discharged veterans among Simpson alumni return for homecoming events at Indianola. A parade and the Cornell Simpson football game headline today’s activities, followed by a homecoming dance. A homecoming church service will be held at the Methodist church Sunday.
Des Moines report states Oliver W. Angell of Cedar Rapids accepted a $25 reward from a woman for leasing her a house. He was ordered to pay $50 to the state Office of Price Administration for violating rent ceiling rules. OPA said the reward was improper and not refunded, noting such rewards breach rent limits. Walter D. Kline, state OPA director, commented on the violation.
Spencer residents accuse an army recruiting squad of 14 men of worsening local troubles by spending far above normal rents. A note to Seventh Service Command in Omaha Nebraska claims recruiters are privileged to pay higher rents than the town’s prevailing rates.
Addison M. Parker, 67, a lawyer and former state senator, died at his Des Moines home after a cerebral hemorrhage in August. His senate term ran 1915 to 1928, the only political office he pursued, though he remained active in later campaigns.
In Council Bluffs Virginia Sprinkel 2, Marilyn Sprinkel 4, and Jean Sayers 18 were overcome by carbon monoxide at the C. J. Sprinkel home. Firemen revived them, saying gas came from the basement hot water heater.
The county clerk of court issued two marriage licenses. Raymond Harold Wolfe of Lockridge and Mildred Viola Sharpe of Washington secured a license yesterday, and today Cpl. Clarence E. Witthoft of Washington and Edna M. Thatcher of Kalona received theirs.

Dr Ludwig S. Simon born 1870 in the community died October 7 in a Los Angeles hospital. He practiced in Chicago from 1897 until retiring in 1939 and later moved with his brother to Los Angeles. He was chief of staff at Michael Reese Hospital and head of its obstetrical department. He studied at Washington High School University of Iowa College of Physicians & Surgeons and in Europe. He is survived by his brother David and nephew Carl R. Simon and the three resided together in Les Anabases.
In Buenos Aires on October 13, reports say Col. Juan D. Peron was arrested at 4:30 a.m. and taken to a gunboat, a claim unconfirmed by police who barred newsmen. The military clashes with civilian authorities continue as discussions about a new cabinet and possible elections unfold.

Funeral services for Mrs John Simmering were conducted at 2 PM yesterday at L A Jones funeral home. Burial followed at Elm Grove Cemetery. Rev Milo J Phillips led the service with casket bearers including John H Simmering Ed Simmering Charles Greiner Marion Smith Cecil Long and George Chalupa.
