Spencer area farmer Ray Ingram, 48, died after clothing was caught in tractor machinery. The incident occurred near Dickens. He is survived by his wife and three children.
Jack Hardy 41 of Los Angeles was elected national commander of AMVETS at the Chicago meeting. Dr Gerald I Cerrulo of Newark NJ became first vice commander and Dr Clyde M Longstreth of Atlantic IA was named second vice commander and 1946 convention site in St Louis MO.
A Corsair fighter plane with diminishing fuel made a three point landing on Swedesburg Street. Pilot Maj. C. M. Kunz of Springfield Missouri and nearby pedestrians escaped injury. The craft had been forced to abandon a Springfield area landing due to bad conditions and traveled north, skimming over trees and poles before stopping after three quarters of a mile. The major was on weekend leave.
Bill Collebille won the 4 H boys and girls judging contest at a field day sponsored by the Blue Grass Hereford Breeders Association at the John Wisdom ranch. He received a registered Hereford calf donated by Wisdom.
Friends from across Iowa gathered at the Methodist church to honor Rev. Alta Nichols on her twenty fifth year in ministry. A dinner in the parlors and a Congregational gift of 25 silver dollars surprised the pastor as colleagues praised her dedication and warm leadership.

Eleven dairy cows of the Jay Brewer herd were killed when struck by the westbound Rock Island train as they were driven across a private crossing near 1135 West Main Street. Herdsman Randall Houts failed to hear the approaching locomotive and the gate was opened too late to stop the herd. Carcasses were sent to Farmers Rendering Works in Iowa City.
Buenos Aires Oct. 15. The civilian triumphate freed the last political prisoners from Peron era rule and moved to replace the military government with a civilian cabinet. War Minister Gen. Avalos ordered the release of communist Victorio Cadovilla, one of 210 prisoners released as moves for reform began. The government reopened universities, purged Peronists, released judge Barraco Marino, and pledged full press freedom with a possible lifting of the state of siege.
Paris reports Pier re Laval was executed by firing squad at Fresnes prison after a failed poison attempt. He died at 12:32 p m in the courtyard and was buried in Thiais cemetery in a plain black coffin. His defense lawyer said he left a note protesting his death.
Washington County reports $6,620.20 raised on Saturday night toward a $12,200 target. Receipts for the day total $969.95 as the drive continues in Washin city.

Off San Francisco on Oct 15 Admiral William Halsey led the USS South Dakota, flagship of the 3rd Fleet, in a victory march toward the Golden Gate. A column of destroyers and submarines accompanied the battleship 100 miles southwest of the city in a grand homecoming.
Tokyo reports the Japanese general staff dissolved and an allied dominated war office assumes remaining demobilization tasks. MacArthur says occupation goals progress, but many issues remain to be settled. He plans a radio address to the U S public to explain policy.
Gen George S Patton commander of the Fifth Army attended a Frankfurt football game yesterday with rumors he sustained injuries in a weekend automobile accident. Gen Dwight D Eisenhower also attended to celebrate his 55th birthday and appeared at the event.
James B McCaleb 88 died Sunday morning at his Dublin area home after a lingering illness. Born July 12, 1857 he lived mainly in Dublin with short stints in Brighton Rubio and Washington. Survived by wife Hannah Lmithly two sons James and Robert two daughters Mrs Sidney Smith and Mrs May Smith two sisters Mrs Ola Mayer Mrs J R Maxwell Mint McCaleb and his parents Robert and Phoebe Swires McCaleb. Funeral Tuesday at Shermans funeral home with interment New Haven cemetery.
