Registration Drive Sets Up Precinct Registrars in Washington County
Precinct registration for men aged 21 to 35 for possible military service will occur next Wednesday October 16. Chief registrars met at the courthouse to receive instructions from county auditor Mrs Ethel Grecian Wilson Verle Gallagher replaces P F Whistler in Jackson township. Registrars will be instructed beforehand and work from seven to nine with flags at each site. A prepaid form records answers, reviewed by the county auditor and then the county draft board. Each registrant receives a certificate of registration at the site.

Norman Thomas to Speak at Cornell College
Norman Thomas Socialist party presidential candidate will speak at Cornell College in Mount Vernon this evening at 8. In Webster City Sam Burnett, 71, a farmer near Duncombe, died from injuries after being caught beneath his overturned tractor. Burnett suffered a fractured skull and was found in a field before being taken to the county hospital.

First Auto Fatalities in Henry County

First Lap of 100 Mile Trail Ride Completes in Indianola
Eight women and 19 men joined about 40 friends from Indianola and Des Moines for a dinner after completing the first of three 40 mile segments. Riders began at the Des Moines state fairgrounds before an overnight stay in Indianola. The group will ride 40 miles back to Des Moines today and a 20 mile final stretch on Sunday with trophies awarded at the state fairgrounds.

Dr. Fred W. Bailey 61 longtime Cedar Rapids eye ear nose and throat specialist died in New York City.
