Cedar Falls reports Iowa State Teachers College faculty vote to allow optional class attendance for juniors and seniors starting with the winter quarter after Thanksgiving. Upperclassmen must attend only the first and last five days of each term and on test days.
Des Moines Iowa food store chains paid the bulk of the chain store tax for the year ended June 39. The state board of assessment and review says food industry taxes totaled 25 242 from 685 taxed units averaging 36 per store. The data implies the average food chain operates more than thirty stores.
Live fish are drawn from the Mississippi River and kept in Meyer Erblich's pool measuring 500 feet by 90 feet by 16 feet, with a capacity of 250,009. They are fed daily on corn until shipment east by the car load. Six tons of corn are needed for every 1,000 pounds of fish.

Dr C A Owen filled the pulpit in summer while assisting the foreign mission field work from Assiut Egypt University.

Lunch and a postconference golf outing wrapped the day for many attendees.
Beir ut, Syria, Oct 12 The United States consul general J Theodore Marriner was shot and killed by an assailant described as a disgruntled Armenian. The murder occurred in Beirut and details were reported by INS.

Joseph M Larimer aged 75 and a railway locomotive engineer for over forty years died at 4:04 am. He lived with his daughter Mrs L A Jones in Washington since retiring in 1933. He was born April 9 1862 in Mercer County Pennsylvania and had worked for the Iowa Central and the Minneapolis & St. Louis railroads. He leaves two sons and three daughters, plus siblings, with funeral services scheduled at the L A Jones funeral home and burial in Elm Grove Cemetery conducted by Dr Arthur Atack.

He was 68 and had served as Richland postmaster and later operated a Standard Oil station in Brighton. He is survived by his widow Nellie Bales Swank and nine siblings in Ohio. Burial will be at Richland. funeral arrangements are pending word from relatives in Ohio.
