Elmer Watland of New Sharon Iowa, serving a one year term for liquor violations in Mahaska County jail, has taken up trapping mice. He aims to trap 100 mice before his release next spring.
Eleven year old Harriett Stands saved three dollars in six months from allowance for a bus trip to Chicago. Travelers Aid representatives found her stranded and returned her home after she arrived in Chicago broke and bewildered.
Mr Roland Swinson age 32 and Mrs Swinson age 23 both of Willmar Minnesota were killed Sunday night when struck by a four truck while changing a flat tire on their coupe.
Rev. J. H. Bounds aged 67 longtime Methodist minister died at a hospital in Emmetsburg He previously served as pastor at Ayrshire and Mallard His wife and six children survive him.
The Order of Red Men and the auxiliary Order of Pocahontas met in Davenport today for the Iowa state convention. Several hundred delegates attended.
Davenport dentist Dr. Charles H. Kelly pledges $50 to the Landon campaign and $50 more if Landon wins in November. He confirms the offer by saying he would write it on a card.
Davenport police report Henry Peters 78 recalls an incident where a man two women and a baby stopped to ask for church directions. Peters says one woman lifted 22 dollars from his purse during the encounter.
Mitcham 45, a restaurateur in Oskaloosa, was killed Sunday when a shotgun exploded as her brother Ray cleaned it at her home. Investigators described the incident as an accidental firearm discharge in a domestic setting.
Nearly one hundred delegates gathered in Cedar Rapids for the Eastern Iowa Young Presbyterians meeting. John Wilke of Olivet Presbyterian Church was elected President Ruth Bickel of Vinton named secretary and Ellen Swomley of Cedar Rapids chosen treasurer.
Burlington night patrolman Nelson was removed from his beat and summarily dismissed late Saturday by Police Chief Murray and Public Safety Commissioner Gill on charges of conduct unbecoming an officer. Murray did not explain the charges.

Mrs. Lester Orr announces a 7 30 pm meeting of the Republican ladies of the third ward at the Republican headquarters. It will be the last women’s gathering before the election and all are urged to attend.
Francis Lamb of Davenport was arrested by Sheriff Harold Putnam and jailed pending a hearing before Justice Royce on a string of theft accusations. Found in a parked car south of town, Lamb appeared intoxicated after midnight, allegedly tapping a gas line, stealing a light fixture, a bottle of milk, blankets, gun shells, and car fuel from several homes. He and his wife had been visiting Washington over the weekend and had been downtown in the evening.
Max R. Landon of Marshalltown, a freshman at Iowa State Teachers College, was elected president of the freshman music class. The event took place in Cedar Falls on October 12.

Final arrangements for the Pleasant Hill church centennial are set for Wednesday with doors opening in the morning and a 9 30 registration. The program includes a 10 30 forenoon session, a noon picnic dinner, a 1 30 afternoon session before a 3 30 baptismal service by the stream, and an evening 7 30 service with a large youth choir. committee members and leaders from the church board are listed. The Pleasant Hill Homecoming drew about 200 attendees with sermons, solos, and a special service.
Work on The Dream of the Clown proceeds for October 23 and 24 in the high school auditorium. Washington men will fill all parts in this musical benefitting the YWCA and the high school band uniforms. Director Mise Mable McGillivray leads an cast of eighty with business men aiding in casting and stage needs.
John F. Dewes 77 died after injuries from a Wednesday automobile crash. Funeral services were held at 10:30 in Kalona Christian Church with Rev. Clark officiating and burial in Sharon Hill cemetery. He was the youngest child of Mr. and Mrs. John Dewes and survived by nieces and nephews.
The U S Supreme Court adheres to a 5 to 4 ruling denying New York’s minimum wage law for women a rehearing. The decision questions Adkins and ups stakes for Washington and other states as appeals challenge wage laws and a Boulder Dam dispute also undergoes review.
