McGovern proposes seven point plan to end Vietnam war

McGovern defends his seven point peace program on NBCs Today Show saying withdrawal within 90 days would not be surrender and that Saigon would face a large remaining army and equipment. He would send Shriver to Hanoi to speed POW releases and aims to end bombing, withdraw forces, and pursue postwar reconciliation with a large veterans program and draft amnesty.

Washington High to hold ice cream social and open house

The High School Building hosts two events Monday night October 16 starting at 6 p.m. An ice cream social and pop concert by the Hi-FIs raise funds for the vocal music department. At 7 p.m. the open house begins with teachers meeting parents. National Education Week runs Oct 23–28. Twirlers from Washington High win state and open competition at Goose Lake with awards presented by Governor Robert Ray. Local twirlers place in duet and individual events. Prison uprising at DC Jail holds director hostage

About 40 to 50 inmates seized a DC Jail cellblock early today and threatened corrections director Kenneth Hardy and at least nine others. Police surrounded the 10 year old facility near RFK Stadium as negotiations continued with involvement from Lorton Reformatory inmates.

Co-located draft boards expand in Iowa

Iowa moves to co locate county draft boards with local registrars as Col. H J Fleischacker says the program saves money and keeps boards separate. Offices drop from 104 in 99 counties to 35 by October with a target of 22 by year end 1973.

Washington County Fall Tour Planned by Historical Society

Washington County residents were reminded of a Fall tour sponsored by the Washington County Historical Society. The group meets at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Mason House in Bentonsport and visits several local sights as color season peaks. All interested persons are invited to participate.
