Major fire tears through Hy Line hatchery
A large fire swept the Hy Line Research Hatchery in Johnston on Monday night causing extensive damage. Firemen from seven suburbs including Johnston Grimes Urbandale Saylor Township Delaware Township Windsor Heights and Camp Dodge battled the blaze for about three and a half hours, gaining control by 9 30 p m. Officials have not yet determined a cause but suspect the power outage late Monday afternoon and the stand-by generator’s use may be related.
Wellman woman regains beer and liquor permit
The Iowa Beer and Liquor Control Department granted a beer and liquor permit to Frances Butterbaugh of Wellman after the city council denied it, with the board finding the council acted arbitrarily and capriciously. It noted no evidence of Butterbaugh’s involvement in a dispute tied to the tavern and found no violations in its operation.
