Nine members of the Washington High School Thespian Troupe with sponsor Michael Kramme attended the state convention in Cedar Rapids. They joined workshops and short presentations, and three students performed in The World of Carl Sandburg, chosen for October 21 at the Iowa teachers convention in Des Moines.

Four youths hurt in county road 636 crash near Haskins
Four Washington youths escaped serious injury when the car left county road 636 east of Haskins, rolled four times, and struck. Driver Robert Paul Nardy, 15, of Washington, lost control on loose gravel and was charged with driving without a valid license. Passengers Phillip Long, 15, David Knaack, 17, and Greg Fenno, 15, received injuries and were treated at Washington County Hospital.

New doctor to open clinic in Washington
A 37 year old internal medicine specialist, Dr Sum Tam, will open practice November 6 in the former Vosika Montgomery clinic. Tam, born in China and previously with the Veterans Administration Hospital in Iowa City, plans a November 3 open house and believes Washington will attract more doctors. he hopes to add a pediatrician to the practice and notes Washington’s proximity to Iowa City as key. His wife Theresa and three daughters will join him.
