The Washington De-Mens will assemble at the fairgrounds this evening at 7 30 p m in the school house on the grounds west of Washington. The event appears in a local notice context. The Supreme Court decision lets stand a 1967 state ruling requiring subdivisions of Senate and House districts to avoid at large elections in multiple districts.

Auto crash kills Washington man at highway bend
William Sylvester Stewart, 53, a well known Washington resident, died in a three car collision on highway one nine miles north of Fairfield Sunday night. His wife Kay Stewart was listed in fairly good condition. Parsons College students Robert Watts 18 Patricia Jensen 19 and Charles Clark 22 were involved. Watts driving the second car attempted to pass two southbound cars when his vehicle sideswiped Jensen and struck Stewart head on. Watts was in critical condition at a Iowa City hospital. Mrs Stewart was hospitalized with chest back and multiple injuries. Funeral services for William S Stewart will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the Marion Avenue United Presbyterian Church. Burial will follow at Elm Grove Cemetery. Memorial gifts will fund an organ for the church chapel. He was a UW Wisconsin Chapman College trained musician and teacher, survived by his wife daughter and two sisters. He was a former member of the Y's Men’s Club and the Washington Municipal Band.

Two youths shot after Waterloo tavern brawl
In Waterloo Iowa James Bailey and George Whitehead fought at Big Pete's Klick Club. Whitehead allegedly returned with a .22 rifle chasing Bailey and his 4 year old son and a friend, injuring the boy in the abdomen and the other child in the foot.
