School Bus Hit by Semi Trucks Injures Pupils in Iowa

A semi truck loaded with livestock rear-ended a school bus near Melvin Iowa injuring twenty three pupils and the driver Dick Stellingwers twenty three treated and three hospitalized while four others escaped injury. The truck driver Dean Hasner was uninjured. The bus and truck cab sustained heavy damage as the bus rolled into a ditch.

Indonesia asked to be peacemaker in Vietnam

Clinton Engine firm closes doors in Maquoketa Iowa

Clinton Engine Corp. shuts its Maquoketa plant after running out of money leaving about 1000 workers idle. Attorney Douglas Burris says the firm is not bankrupt though a petition was filed to allow a plan of action, possibly merger liquidation or continued operation. Director Sugene Streets announced the closure over a loudspeaker at 1:30 p.m., later denying further statements.

U P Home auction planned to aid new wing

Residents of the United Presbyterian Home in Washington plan an extensive week long fund raising effort centered on a giant auction sale to finance a new residential wing. Nineteen Die In Bus Train Collision Near Dorion

A Canadian National freight train struck a yellow school bus carrying 42 youths to a Hudson high school dance near Dorion Quebec. Eighteen youths and the bus driver died. Dozens were injured as bodies and wreckage stretched for three fourths of a mile. Authorities reported possible tampering near a signal box before the crash. The train crew survived.
