Cedar County Sheriff W W Christian says Joe Hartman age 48 killed himself at his former wife’s farm by firing a rifle into his head after approaching her as she went to milk. They married in 1920 and divorced last May.
A Des Moines report by state agents Denholm and Studer cites affidavits from two state printing board workers and two garage staff detailing the sale of state codes, pilfering of car accessories, and a 65 gallon gasoline shortage as the basis for dismissals and possible terminations in two departments.

City Treasurer Charles Gould asked City Council to seek legal action to stop Pottawattamie County from lowering the city tax levy for the fire and police pension fund.
