Des Moines reports that the liquor control commission has leased space for five new liquor stores in New Albia Traer Elma Livermore and Akron Chairman RB Manley stated the plan.
A 61-year-old federal employee from Arlington West Virginia considers relocating to Iowa City when he retires. He weighs Iowa's auto tax and rising egg prices against housing, utilities, and food costs such as eggs milk butter meat fish and rents for a three room apartment with heat gas electricity bath and hot water.
The body of a 50 year old woman identified as Mrs. James McPherson was recovered from the Des Moines river after she disappeared from her home less than an hour earlier. Rev. Harry Shiffler, a friend, made the identification.
Fort Dodge Thomas McCullum, 72, of Rolfe, died at Mercy hospital from burns after a spark from his pipe ignited clothing. He was burning flammable chemical used to destroy Canada thistle when a spark set his clothes alight.

Ralph Cramer of Burlington ran afoul of Webster City traffic rules with multiple offenses. He failed to stop at an arterial highway for a $3 fine, was arrested for reckless driving east of town with a $25 fine, then accused of reckless driving in Jewels for another $25, and is to appear in court again as he allegedly sped away from a pursuing officer.
Anamosa Iowa state reformatory fed prisoners meals averaging under seven cents per inmate in August. Officials reported 1,140 prisoners consumed 1,500 pounds beef 4,500 pounds pork and 10,000 pounds potatoes plus 750 dozen eggs 525 gallons cream 13 barrels syrup and 6,000 pounds of gum ear.
Chicago witnesses a dramatic chase as John Casey, 33, alleged shortlifter, cried I’m wounded while fleeing a patrol. A pistol fired into the air by the pursuing officer revealed no injury upon examination.

DeWitt says Larson is a young gifted public speaker and urges all Presbyterian men to attend.
