Eight women jurors in Des Moines asked District Judge Joseph E. Meyer to replace damaged stockings used while inspecting burr infested property in condemnation proceedings. Judge Meyer ruled the court could not provide new hosiery.
A second child of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Franklin, Lulu Drusilla, died at University hospital in Iowa City from the same digestive ailment as brother Freddie. The siblings were believed to have eaten red haws and berries found along the Iowa River near their home.
Two men were held on charges of threatening Charles Lunt a New Sharon farmer until he lent them 38 dollars on a worthless security. Arrested at Corydon, they gave the names N. M. Niemyer 32 of East St. Louis Illinois and Dewey Schoen 39 of St. Louis Missouri.
Donald Vandeest, an eighth grade pupil, fractured his ankle after sliding down a firehouse pole during a Fire Prevention Week tour with classmates. The incident occurred in Cedar Falls as the group toured the station.

Tom Scott an extension wildlife specialist at Iowa State College cautions that five species canvasback wood duck buffier redhead and ruddy duck are protected and may not be hunted under penalty of prosecution.
Marshalltown Municipal Judge L R Sheets orders officers to seize bikes from youngsters who violate the city traffic ordinance. Bikes will be stored for one week, with a second offense risking permanent loss of the bicycle.
Dubuque Hibbe, a retired farmer from Madison Wisconsin, and Ruth Wheaton, a 67 year old widow from Madison, applied for a marriage license in town. The ceremony was to be performed by Maurice Lefer of St.ark’s Lutheran Church. Both had previous marriages and children.
Chicago dispatch reports Senator Robert M. La Follette of Wisconsin will head a progressive third party as a 1940 presidential candidate. Solomon Levitan Wisconsin state treasurer predicts La Follette will gain labor support and backing from President Roosevelt.
A preaching mission will be held at the Ainsworth United Presbyterian Church from October 10 to 17. Rev. J. F. Jamieson of Monmouth Illinois will preach Sunday at 11 a.m. and every evening at 7:30. Special singing will accompany the services and the public is invited.
Funeral services for James E. Christman manager of Muscatine airport were held in Muscatine after his death in a plane crash during an exhibition at Cedar Rapids Indiana. Aviators Marvin Mills and Roy Toomaan flew over the grave in salute.
Salamanca Oct 8. Lieut Harold Dahl of Champaign Illinois an American aviator held by Spanish rebels was reprieved after a death sentence. He thanked rebel leader General Francisco Franco by telegraph and remains in prison awaiting a potential prisoner exchange with three Russians also convicted for taking up arms against Spain.
