Escapee Gearin Arrested in Montana Faces Extradition
Washington County authorities notified today that 21 year old Mark Gearin, who escaped from Riverview Release Center Newton last month with inmate Richard E. Schultz, was captured in Missoula Montana. Gearin is held pending extradition to Iowa after a Wednesday night arrest on criminal trespass charges. The pair fled after stealing a truck and leaving a Grinnell work detail.

Concealed weapon suspect held after Ainsworth disturbance
Phillip Hyde, 20, of rural Brighton, is jailed in Washington County on charges of carrying a concealed weapon and disturbing the peace after a highway 218 bridge stop near Ainsworth. A handgun was seized and bond set at 5150 dollars for Hyde, who was due in Magistrate Court. Sheriff Yale Jarvis and Deputy Warren Schmidt made the arrest following a report of a gun brandished at 439 Lincoln St. in Ainsworth. J W Hostetler, 30, Geneseo NL, was also arrested Wednesday night in Brighton on public intoxication charges.

United Press International reports a cold high pressure system over Iowa lowered overnight temps to 27 at Spencer and in the 30s across the state with 31 at Mason City and Waterloo, 33 at Sioux City, 35 Ames, 36 Dubuque, 37 Ottumwa, 38 Burlington and Des Moines. The high moves east today and a central plains low is expected to bring rain statewide Friday.
