Harvey B. Holden of Washington today announced his resignation as co chair of the Washington County Republican Central Committee in a letter to Mrs. Cecil Miller of Wellman. He has entered the race for Washington city councilman from the fourth ward and says he does not want politics to intrude on the nonpartisan local election. The resignation becomes effective November 1.

The Washington Public Library will implement new hours starting Monday October 10. Murder charge could follow transfer in Waterloo shooting
Richard E. Van Brocklin, 17, of Waterloo, may face a murder charge if a petition to transfer his case from juvenile court to Black Hawk County District Court is approved. He is accused in the fatal shooting of 14 year old Robin Burke, who died at a local hospital after the incident at Van Brocklin's residence around 1 p.m. Sunday. The case was initially charged as manslaughter in juvenile court.
