Parole Board Recommends Rehabilitating Two Iowa Ex-Prisoners
The Iowa Board of Parole advised Gov. Hickenlooper to restore citizenship to David Downey of West Liberty and Ernest Roberts of Bonaparte after requests from their commanding officers in the army. Downey, paroled Oct 1 1942 after two years of a seven year sentence for false drawing of checks, and Roberts, released Feb 22 1942 after two years of a 11 year sentence for forgery. Virginia Bedell of Spirit Lake noted letters from officers praise the soldiers as fine veterans drawing strong support from the board.

Davenport Double Funeral For Local Couple After Crash
A double funeral will be held Saturday for Reynold Dietz 83 of Walcott and his wife Annita 34 killed in a head on crash near Walcott on Highway 6. The other driver Melvin A Feakes of Des Moines was uninjured. Bernice Sulir 19 of Walcott is hospitalized in critical condition with internal injuries and fractures of both legs. Mrs Alice Hamann of Davenport is also in the hospital with minor injuries. The Dietzes were en route to Davenport after attending a wedding anniversary celebration in Walcott.

Wehr Killed in Action in France During World War II
Private Garold Wehr, formerly of Haskins 22 in France, son of Mr. and Mrs. Garold Wehr, killed in action Sept. 22. He entered the army Sept. 9, 1942 and had been overseas since June 16, 1944, serving in the infantry. He is survived by his wife Alice Kiene, their 11 month old son Larry, his parents, and twin brother Harold Wehr in the Navy.
