Faculty advisor T J Berdo, Doug’s campaign managers Carol Mellinger and Jane McClure, and 14 OE students traveled to the convention October 3, staying overnight at a Howard Johnson Motel. Jane will deliver the nomination speech and Doug will give the acceptance speech, with the group returning Tuesday evening.

Whistling Champion Crowned at Carson City Contest
Harvey Pollock, a Winnipeg lawyer, won the first International Whistle-Off in Carson City Nevada. He performed a string of classical tunes including A Whistler and His Dog. Gas filibuster ends in Senate energy pricing deal
The Senate ended a two week filibuster and backed a compromise on natural gas pricing. Sen. James Abourezk and Sen. Howard Metzenbaum led the move to end delaying tactics. The plan by Sen. Henry Jackson would raise prices to 2.03 dollars per thousand cubic feet immediately and to 3.48 by 1985, extend federal controls to production state sales, then free new gas from regulations in 1987. Energy Secretary James Schlesinger did not endorse but did not object.
