This afternoon at 1 40 the jury received the case of the state of Iowa against James Gardner of Wellman charged with assault with intent to commit great bodily injury. A H Welte 78 of Richmond died at 9 40 this morning at his home after a long illness. He was a blacksmith all his life and is survived by four daughters and three sons. His wife died July 29 this year. Funeral arrangements are pending with services at Holy Trinity Church Richmond conducted by Father Van Waus. Born April 11 1860 in Washington county he spent most of his life in Richmond and married there after a stint in Kalona. He belonged to Holy Trinity Catholic church.
