In Shenandoah the fifteenth annual Sunday school parade took place in light drizzle. One thousand sixty four people joined the event with two bands and a glee club participating.
Faris, 19, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. F C Faris of Mediapolis, was crowned queen of the corn festival. She defeated Edna Lee in a late ballot contest to win the title.
Marshalltown traffic in the business district was stopped by evening as Talleorn exposition stages were built. For the first time in town history the streets host such activity, marking a new civic event.
U. S. Iowa City reports that R. T. Fulghum and Otto J. Kraushaar, former members of John Philip Sousa's band, will serve as assistant band masters for the new 100 piece University of Iowa band.
Bernard Lennon from Iowa State College public speaking staff is on leave in New York City and appointed assistant stage manager for Sidney Kingsley new play Ten Million Ghosts launching on Broadway this month.
Roy Martin's one year old daughter Emma Louise dies after falling headfirst into a pail containing three inches of water northwest of Red Oak. The mother left briefly, returning to find the child struggling in the pale.
Belmond area pastor Rev. 8S. UU. Lienbach, 68, was killed when a bull charged him while he walked cattle to pasture two miles east of Belmond. Sheriff and ranchers investigated the accidental death.

A first district joint American Legion and Legion Auxiliary meeting is set for Tuesday Oct 27 in Washington. The Legion program features a 2 30 PM meeting, a 6 30 drum corps drill and parade, 6 15 parale, 6 30 banquet with the auxiliary, 7 45 banquet program, and a 9 50 dance at the country club. Registration and banquet tickets are being mailed to posts. The auxiliary will meet at the Y M C A at the same afternoon time, join for the banquet, with Mrs J B Engel of Bennett presiding and other department officers appearing. Local color bearers and pages, pianist, and soloist are listed, with welcome from Mrs Maynard Brown.
Funeral services were held at the Mennonite church in Wayland for 15 year old Robert Durward Shively who died Saturday night after a six month illness linked to influenza. He and twin brother Richard were popular Wayland High School students active in the band and glee club. He was born March 6 1921 to Arnold and Ella Shively and survived by his mother a sister and a brother. Burial followed at North Hill cemetery with L A Jones Funeral Home of Washington in charge.
Sheriff Putnam and City Marshal Homes led raids on two southwest side homes near the tile factory and seized ten gallons of liquor. Lee Slaughter admitted guilt on a home brewed five gallons while Mrs. Emily Hayes faced parole status after a prior arrest. Slaughter awaits district court arraignment after a guilty plea plot. Hayes, 80, has not been jailed.
Des Moines reports both Republican and Democratic leaders plan major tours this week. Republicans announce Frank O. Lowden and Theodore Roosevelt Jr leads with stops in Waterloo and Marshalltown while Henry J. Allen and Dan W. Turner also appear. Democrats feature Hugo Black Paul McNutt and aviator Phoebe Omlie touring with Izetta Miller, promoting Roosevelt.
New York Giants beat the Yankees 5-4 in ten innings to extend the world series. Core doubled and scored after Terry’s fly, giving New York the win in a tense tenth inning. The series then moved to a fifth game that remained tied 4-4 after nine innings.
A democratic meeting will be held in Richmond Tuesday evening October 6 at 8 o clock. Amos Stout of Brighton township, candidate for state representative, will speak.

Mrs Mary Smith aged 83 died at 2 30 am at a daughter's home due to influenza and old age and funeral services are set for tomorrow at Holy Trinity church Richmond burial in Richmond cemetery Miss Mary Kodyn would have been 90 October 28 her funeral was held this afternoon at Richmond Methodist Church conducted by Rev J T Perkins of Kalona burial in Richmond cemetery Her survivors include several nieces and nephews
Eva Sands Hanna died at her Crawfordsville home after a long illness. She was born April 36 1887 near Ainsworth and married Lee Hanna on Oct 14 1908. She had lived in Ainsworth Washington West Chester and Crawfordsville and was active in United Presbyterian churches. Burial will be at Crawfordsville.
Four people died in weekend automobile accidents in Iowa raising the year to 2386 fatalities. Among the victims were Raymond Johnson 18 of Alleman Iowa Carrie Johnson 18 of Mason City William Core 31 of Oakland and Samuel R Dodds 75 of Davenport. Dodds was a pedestrian killed when struck by a car driven by Marvin Hart of Winfield late yesterday.
Weather forecast for the period starting October 6 with the upper Mississippi and lower Missouri valleys and the northern and central Great Plains. Not much precipitation likely and temperatures mostly above normal through the week.
The deceased leaves a husband a mother and sister in Washington and four children including Mrs. William Davidson of Waterloo and sons Robert Bruce and Jons. Funeral arrangements are with Sherman's funeral home Washington.

Hohsen beck 20 and Donald Smith 18 arraigned for robbery of Ben Reis a bachelor farmer in the Germanville community Both boys from Washington county pleaded guilty and were sentenced to not more than ten years each in the state reformatory at Alamosa They were taken to the state prison Saturday and are serving terms
At Washington High School the number of folding chairs dropped from 60 to 44. School authorities cannot explain the missing 16 chairs. Anyone with information should contact Supt. E A Ralston.
