Emmetsburg’s Cylinder town council approved a $3,000 bond issue to fund a new city project. The vote was 45 for with no opposition.
A roof repair worker, John Crabtree, suffered severe facial burns when a bucket of hot tar fell on him in Muscatine. Medical staff report possible loss of sight in one eye as a result of the accident.
Two fraternity houses at the University of Iowa suffered thefts. Bigma Chi reported $30 in cash stolen. Delta Chi dealt with a prowler who took $67 from four members.
Delta Grasshoppers donated by Mrs Orval Knowles who aided fattening a flock of 260 White Wyandotte chickens for an early market. She noted the grasshoppers proved irresistible to the chicks, aiding their growth.

Two divorce hearings were held in district court before Judge J. G. Patterson yesterday with decrees granted. Vera Kephart was granted a divorce from Orie Kephart and Frances Grecian from Floyd Grecian. A further two divorces were approved for Pearl M. Davey from Wythal Davey and Marjorie M. Harris from Russell Harris. Patterson plans to hold court next week in Newton and may attend a brief session in Washington on Thursday.
A large Washington Ottumwa crowd watched the high school band perform an elaborate halftime show at Casefield. Marion Timmins led the band as drum major guiding a display of letters and formations that drew as much attention as the football game itself.

Jefferson Iowa October 3 Two Chicago men Joseph Acerra and George Briggs suspected in the torture robbery of 69 year old Mrs Elizabeth Cairns were detained after a high speed crash near Cambridge Illinois. Acerra hospitalized Briggs lightly injured. Sheriff Foss Davs of Greene county travels to Cambridge with Cairns daughter and store clerk to identify suspects as fingerprints and local sightings are reviewed.
Several business and professional occupants of the Bailey building plan relocating by November 1 as the structure is converted into a four story hotel. Howard McCreery aims to open a loan office upstairs near Nicola & Harmons, with steam heat and carpentry work pending.
