Letters Won't Need Airmail Stamps After October 10
The U S Postal Service announces first class mail will match airmail service after October 11 at Washington Iowa Post Office. Domestic letters up to 13 ounces gain airmail level service, with priority mail unaffected. Airmail stamps may be exchanged for regular stamps, and stationery with airmail indicia mailed at first class rate. Postal rates rise December 28 for one ounce letters and post cards, with parcel post and air mail also increasing.

Three sentenced in district court in Iowa case details
Judge Ira F. Morrison handed deferred or suspended sentences to three defendants. Frederick C. Peiffer of Keota received 24 months probation after pleading guilty to larceny of domestic animals, for the theft of 11 hogs. Larry J. Carlin of Washington got a three month suspended jail term, one year probation, and a 120 day license revocation for an OMVAS charge. Clark L. Wagner of Washington received a one year suspended sentence and probation after pleading guilty to daytime larceny and theft of a car radio. he was fined 25 dollars. Two other sentences were set for Oct. 15 for Burl B. Stoutner and Jack D. Barnes with pre-sentence investigation ordered for Stoutner and sentencing for Barnes.
