Explosion Rips Through Manhattan Office Building Killing 20
A basement boiler exploded in a two story Upper Manhattan building housing New York Telephone Co. workers. The blast hurled debris through walls, killing at least 20 and injuring more than 60 as rescuers, in gas masks, searched the basement wreckage three hours after the noon blast. The block between 10th Avenue and Broadway at 213th and 214th streets housed about 500 people at the time.

State Senior Golfers Board Meets Here
Iowa Senior Golf Association since 1954 grew from 51 to 329 members. T.R. Phillips of Washington said the board met at the Country Club on September 28 for the annual season end meeting. The group, started for golfers over 50, now lists 329 members and runs monthly all day tournaments May through September at rotating sites. Phillips, a charter member and former president, remains a veteran board member.
