Washington area residents may tour the McCleery-Cumming Co calendar building during open house hours on Thursday October 4 from 10 am to noon and 2 to 4 40 pm The company has expanded space and added machinery including a folding machine a 14 station counter a stitcher and trimmer an IBM room and expanded art department The firm now employs about 200 people and spent at least 700000 locally last year with October being Iowa Industry Month observed by the Iowa Manufacturers Association. A display will also be seen in Klein Klothing Co window.

Pilot-Observer Team Recalled From World War I Ties
Rev Bruce Gillis now lives at United Presbyterian Home grounds and recalls serving with Lt Walter M Schirra Sr after World War I as artillery observer and pilot. Schirra, an RAF ace in the war, later joined an American squadron at Toul France where the two first worked together. Gillis enlisted from Monmouth College and trained in San Antonio Saumur and Tours before entering the ministry.

Demons football suffered a second major injury Monday afternoon when junior reserve guard Ronnie Marsh broke his leg during a late practice. The Washington native’s leg broke above the knee after a cross body block and he was hospitalized for treatment.
