A column notes 105 Iowa World War II deaths added to the war records list, bringing total to 6,982. Mrs. Beesie Wilson, keeper of the records since the war began, says the latest month shows the smallest rise since early in the war, mainly former missing in action later found.
Buena Vista county approved a one half mill two year tax to raise 55000 for hospital equipment by a vote of 2654 to 1319 about 64 percent in favor. banker George Schaller offered 706000 for a county hospital if the citizens supply 35000 to equip it with the condition of at least 68 percent approval.
In Cedar Rapids two men were burned when a gasoline pump exploded as firefighters sprayed chemicals on a nearby blaze. Fire Captain John Maher suffered first degree burns while station attendant Frank Record, 47, was seriously burned and hospitalized. The accident began when a car bumper dislodged the pump hose as it left.
The seventh regional war labor board fined nine Midwest firms for Wage Stabilization Act violations by granting unauthorized pay increases. Six Iowa concerns face sanctions totaling $62,057.51, disallowable for income tax purposes. John S. Witte & Sons of Burlington owes $18,557.01.
Gen Tomoyuki Yamashita will face a five man American military commission in Manila for rape and brutal atrocities against the Philippines and allied nations. He is expected to be arraigned October 8 after surrendering September 5 and being held at Bilibid prison. The trial orders come from Lt Gen Wilhelm D Styer under Gen Douglas MacArthur and name him general of the imperial Japanese army during 1944 45 in Manila and surrounding areas.

Nellie A White 68 died yesterday at University Hospital Iowa City after five weeks illness. Funeral Friday at 2 pm at Hohenschuk Donohue funeral home Iowa City with graveside service 430 pm. Survived by six sons daughters 12 grandchildren and siblings in Kansas City Spokane and Chicago.

NOWCOMER Kurt Okerstrom of Fairfield becomes manager at Benteco Super Market replacing Marion Swanson who took over Peoples Grocery on South Iowa avenue. Okerstrom recently left the army after two years service and plans to move his wife and 13 year old son Earl Jr. to Washington once they find a home or apartment. Golf is his main hobby and he notes his 18 hole scores improved by 14 strokes since enlistment.
