Washington merchants invite thousands to celebrate the completion of the street improvement program on Thursday to Saturday. The big day is Thursday with flag raising, ribbon cutting, radio and TV entertainment, a high school parade, and a hula hoop contest followed by dance numbers, free coffee and treats. The three day event marks the opening of South Ninth Avenue from Washington Street to the Mc Cleery Cumming Calendar factory as part of a $280,000 project.

Hog price outlook warns of sharp fall in 1959
The Agriculture Department warned hog raisers that a rise in production could push prices for fall 1959 down toward 10.60 per hundredweight, the low tied to 1955. Woman Dies After Richland Head-On Collision
A Burlington woman, Allie McKeag, 69, died at Jefferson County Hospital Fairfield from head on crash injuries. Walter Heildorffer, 48, of rural Richland, was supposedly driving out of control when his car crossed into the McKeag vehicle. Bert E. McKeag, 36, and his wife Wilma were in the other car. he and Mrs McKeag suffered injuries. Investigating officers said charges will be filed.
