John Schindler, 20, of rural Keota, died while digging a ditch at a Kalona housing site eight feet deep. He was found beneath six feet of dirt by would-be rescuers. Schindler worked alone, employed by Lynn Wagamon of Washington on sewer and water line installation near the northeast Kalona housing project. Washington County Deputy sheriff indicates the incident occurred Tuesday.
