Fire at the Lawrence Miksch farm southwest of Washington destroyed a corn crib hog house and hog shade. About 1,800 bushels of corn 500 bales of straw and 3,000 feet of lumber were lost. Alarm sounded at 2:20 a.m. Insurance on contents. cause undetermined.
In Chicago federal building a corridor news conference released 59 names of American service members reportedly held prisoner by North Vietnam. Dellinger and Davis of the Chicago Seven disclosed the list to reporters, while Pentagon officials noted 54 were identified as POWs and five as missing. The pair aim to open communications through the unnamed Hanoi contact and a messenger. the list was released via Xuan Oanh in Paris.

Two sergeants Gunnery Sgt. J L Payne and S Sgt G G Thompson were stripped of drill instructor duties at Parris Island after an investigation found they mistreated Pvt Stephen E Melson who died of chronic kidney failure. Payne forfeited 300 dollars and a third instructor was cleared. Melson had reported beatings prior to his death.
Secretary Rogers says the United States will not fight major wars in the Asian mainland again and will not send American troops unless backed by the public and Congress. He notes Nixon’s Vietnam withdrawal is progressing and expects South Vietnam to take over more combat duties. Rogers also praises Soviet conduct in Helsinki arms talks as constructive and non polemical.
Senator Stephen Young, D Ohio, cites possible 200 to 700 civilian deaths in the Song My incident after Army Secretary Resor testified before Senate Armed Services Committee. Resor’s disclosures and slides prompted shock. Rep Arends and several lawmakers voiced reaction.
Indians occupying Alcatraz plan a Thanksgiving feast for 135 guests with help from San Francisco restaurants and bay crew volunteers, while government officials insist the island remains closed and the occupation continues under GSA dispute. Richard Oakes, 27, is elected president of Alcatraz as the group establishes living quarters in an old prison building.
About 100 U.S. soldiers at the 71st Evacuation Hospital in Pleiku fasted on Thanksgiving to protest the war. Some signed a letter to President Nixon calling the war senseless, while hospital casualties kept the 300 bed facility busy. Col. Joseph Bellas said no punishments would follow.
An Arab man threw a hand grenade into El Al offices during work hours injuring at least 13 people including two in critical condition.
