Kenneth Baker, operator of a 22500 acre farm between the Mississippi and Iowa rivers, tallies 750000 pounds of pork and 506000 pounds of beef this year's marketings. The operation includes 2500 hogs, 6500 cattle, 150 ewes, 80 to 100 horses, 6000 chickens and several hundred ducks.
Vice President Henry A. Wallace defended U S policy and called Butler’s $6,000,000,090 figure misrepresentation. Wallace said federal agencies will disprove the claims as Nelson Rockefeller labeled the data a misstatement of facts. Butler released a 200 page report after a 20 nation tour alleging waste and poor coordination.
Santa Claus visited Washington yesterday for a community free show at the Fox theater. Six hundred children lined up for two performances to view five short reels. The program, sponsored by local businessmen and supported by the Chamber of Commerce, drew grateful notes from children though candy was scarce due to rationing for the armed forces.
Cedar Rapids John Bad ing a 49 year old farmer near Coggon was found guilty by Judge G P Lin ville of receiving stolen property. Bad ing allegedly bought more than 50 stolen hogs in summer from William Preston 21 Jess Eyerly 37 and Fred Eyerly 30 all of Cedar Rapids Coggan. The Eyerly brothers are in state penitentiary and Preston is in Linn county jail awaiting disposal of his case.
George Hewitt, 99, was treated for burns after a kerosene heater overturned in his room on Thanksgiving Day and started a fire. Firemen checked the blaze and assessed damage at $500 before his release from the hospital Friday.
Des Moines Iowa's quota for student nurses for the 1943 44 school year exceeds by 30 percent the number Iowa nursing schools say they can admit The new quota 1 683 students 390 more than the schools estimate was given to the state nursing council for war service by Adeline Hendricks executive secretary.
Floyd Crayne, a West Chester farmer, remains at the university hospital in Iowa City after a badly mangled arm from a corn picker accident. Reports say recovery is possible but the injury is serious and amputation may be avoided, though prognosis remains uncertain.
The temperature fell to 20 degrees above zero overnight and rose again today as skies cleared and sunshine returned. Highs are expected to climb modestly with milder air moving in.
O C Pettit secretary treasurer for eleven years resigns effective January 1 from the Fairfield National Farm Loan association. He helped organize the group eleven years ago and led it to strength as one of the best in the state. He cites strenuous driving and past ice accident as reasons for stepping down. A successor will be chosen soon.
Delegates from all townships in Washington county elect a county chair man for the Agricultural Conservation association for the 1044 federal farm program at the AAA office. Warren O. Morgan of Clay township was chosen chairman, replacing the vacancy filled since October 1. Leslie Gates of Franklin was re elected as vice chairman.

Washington post office bulletin urges careful packing for insured parcels during the Christmas season due to overburdened mail facilities. It warns that damage and loss arise from weak containers, insufficient cushioning, and poor twine, and advises strong durable packaging, multiple cushioning layers, legible addresses, and clear return information to speed indemnity claims.
Washington county war price and rationing board publishes corrected ceiling prices for corn. Shelled corn price to farmers is 97 cents per bushel, to truckers and elevators 95 cents, carload elevator price 9.65 cents per pound. Deduction for damaged corn 2 cents per bushel, moisture allowances reduce price 0.5 cent per 0.5 percent moisture over 15 percent. Catherine White, Blue Island Illinois instructor, visits during Thanksgiving vacation with her aunts.
Dorothy Raine of Fairfield reported her car stolen from a Brighton street between 11 and 11 30 last night. The car was later found in the Sandy Hook area with no damage, but her purse containing about $20 was missing. Sheriff H M Putnam was notified. thieves remain at large.
RAF drops over 1000 tons on Berlin in fourth raid aimed at destroying German science and industry. Stuttgart diversionary bombardment accompanies Berlin attack. American air force claims record raid. In Italy American 5th Army repels counter attacks while British 8th Army pushes across the Sangro. On the Eastern Front Soviet forces drive German defenses from Gomel toward a corridor northwest.
Ralph Scott and local officials from Washington attended an Iowa aviation conference in Des Moines called by Governor Hickenlooper to discuss postwar air travel. Mrs Scott also attended. Speakers warned of a rapid air travel rise and urged communities to plan for an air age, with L Welch Pogue stressing cities must act or risk becoming ghost cities.
