Johnson’s Thanksgiving address emphasizes gratitude for God’s blessings, peace, and abundance while honoring troops abroad. He recalls America’s founders and notes democracy remains a goal, not an achievement, urging continued defense of freedom and just providence.
The Israeli liner Shalom crashed with the Norwegian Dagali after leaving New York, killing at least 12 to 15 crew and passengers. Coast Guard and other vessels scrambled in heavy fog. 24 survivors, 12 confirmed dead, and four unaccounted for later reports. Passengers and crew evacuated to hospitals. the ship headed back to New York amid a major marine disaster.
Miss Holden, a St Luke’s School of Nursing senior from Washington Iowa, will compete against 47 Methodist hospital schools for the Miss Methodist Student Nurse title. The winner receives a trip to the Chicago convention January 19 to 21 1965 and special ceremonies.

He emphasized multiple variables in solving the crisis and noted continued aid without large troop increases.
UPI reports an American-Belgian airlift freed 200 white captives from Congolese rebels at Paulis as Belgian paratroops and U.S. pilots aided a drive after a prior Stanleyville operation. At least 14 whites were killed, with one American, Joseph Tucker, among the victims.
The Washington Community School sponsors an adult farmer evening school this winter with ten sessions on Farm Management. The first session on December 3 will cover Tools of Management. Temperatures dropped to subzero in Montana as Macy’s parade opened the Christmas season in New York.
United Press International reports Iowa will have mostly fair but briskly cold conditions tonight with scattered clouds and occasional snow showers Friday. Tonight's lows range from 5 above in the northwest to 10-15 in the southeast. Friday highs reach the 20s to low 30s as continued cold air remains.
