Washington Students Do Well At State Music Conven tion
Washington high school musicians earned top honors at the all Iowa state music convention in Des Moines. John Winga Jr won first chair in the clarinet section, Gus Mast took seventh chair, Eva Blattner placed fourth on sax, Linda Brindley and Maxine Crone earned top band percussion seats. The final concert airs tonight on KRNT with a 300 piece band, 200 piece orchestra, and a 1600 voice chorus.

Fourteen Die From Poison Gas Cloud Near Poza Rica

Mrs. Amy McKee 71 Dies Here After Illness
Amy McKee 71 died at 11 o clock Saturday after about a month of illness. She lived at 414 South Avenue B. Funeral at Sherman’s Funeral Home Monday at 2 PM with Rev. T. C. Polk officiating and burial in Elm Grove cemetery. Born June 22 1879, wife of Samuel J. McKee m 1906 they lived in Chicago 3 years then Prairie Flower farm 18 years Gary Indiana 18 years before returning in 1940. Husband died Feb 3 1945. Survived by brother J Harold Bickford who has lived with her for years.

Boy 11 Confesses to Killing Sister in Playtime Shooting
Earl Buckie Nagel, 11, told police he shot his 14-year-old step sister Edna Nagel after she twisted his leg during play. He initially claimed the rifle fell and caused an accidental shot. Edna died at City Hospital from a shot through an eye.
