Prof. B H C Mabie outlines plans for the University of Iowa theater costing 100000. The 62 by 66 foot stage will feature a cyclorama, wagon stages, and a 36 foot revolving turntable to enable multiple scenes.
Orange City sheriff Hugo Synhorst warns pheasant hunters to avoid Sioux county on Sunday under a blue law. He says any hunter found in the county will be arrested under a statute and face a $6 fine. The sheriff emphasizes county residents want Sunday enforcement.
The large Cornell college chapel tower bell summoned students and alumni to a mass meeting in Mount Vernon for today’s homecoming game against Grinnell College. Cornell players were excused as Coach Dick Barker and Assistant Coach Judd Dean kept the Purple squad rested for the game.
A truck driven by Luther Andrews of Morning Sun rolled into a ditch on a farm east of Media polis. Two mules being carried were killed. Andrews blamed a sudden dimming of his lights. The animals were too badly injured to save and were euthanized. Insurance covered the loss.
Dr. Hans Luther German ambassador to the United States urged a real peace, not merely legal, during a talk before about 300 Exchange Club members and guests in Davenport. He noted Germany’s improved conditions and a drop to one third the previous year’s unemployment.
Burlington report notes Mr and Mrs Melvin Lietsch of West Burlington welcomed a five pound baby girl, their tenth child, with the parents joking that nine girls would spoil a boy anyway. The family had hoped for a boy but expressed happiness at the arrival of their daughter.
In 1934 Attorney General O'Connor visited J E Brennan's beer parlor which the state calls a slot machine protection HQ. Jake Harkaway testified that Brennan's place was frequented by men indicted with the attorney general on the charge now tried separately.
Henry Strempke found a broken rail on the Chicago Great Western track near the Wapsipinicon river bridge between Dunkerton and Fairbank. He stayed at the scene to flag an incoming train while his wife notified station agents and telephoned the Dunkerton agent.
Combined orchestra and chorus of over 800 musicians under Prof. Philip G. Clapp will perform Handel's Messiah at the University of Iowa Christmas event on November 18. The project marks the organization’s most ambitious undertaking to date.
John L. Lewis of the United Mine Workers resigns as vice president of the American Federation of Labor. He cites no future plans as allies of craft unions clash with his push for vertical unionism, after an executive council rebuke authored by William Green was delivered to him.
Volcano experts in Honolulu said on November 23 that towns on the island of Hawaii were not in danger from lava streams pouring from Mauna Loa crater. They expected the eruption could continue for several months.
In Aduwa, a mob of 200 Italians attacked two American physicians and their wives. The U S consul is asked to investigate and a formal protest will be made to the foreign office. The incident was disclosed from Rome on November 23.
Charles S. Goodwin aged 45 a World War veteran died suddenly at five this morning at 220 North Second Avenue of a heart attack. He had been in failing health after a war injury and is survived by his widow five children and several siblings. Funeral services will be Monday at 2 PM at L A Jones funeral home with Dr B F Schwartz officiating.
Testimony links Attorney General Ed L. OConnor to a Sioux City gambling conspiracy. Witnesses describe OConnor meeting alleged slot machine operators at Brennan beer parlor in November and December 1934 and buying liquor. Trial adjourned until Monday.
American Legion national commander Ray Murphy says bonus legislation should pass by the next congress without a Washington march. He opposes Senator McAdoo who proposed military tactics by bonus advocates, in Des Moines on November 23.
Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Clifford and granddaughter Nancy of Kansas City Missouri are guests this weekend at the home of Mr. and Mrs. H S Livingston.
No admission will be charged and the presentation will be broadcast from station WSUL.

Mrs Pearl Whistler traveled to Iowa City today for business and plans to be away for at least ten days.
Sam Lite of Wichita Kansas, a millionaire by inheritance, continues selling newspapers for the solitude and enjoyment it provides. He notes his identity was kept secret and his fortune amounts to several hundred thousand dollars.
Honolulu reports the Pan American China Clipper nearing the end of the first leg of its 8000 mile trans Pacific airmail flight. The four motor airliner carried 100000 pieces of mail and a crew of seven on a 4 stop journey from San Francisco to Manila. It was about 695 miles from Pearl Harbor at nine o'clock CST.
The second production of The Late Christopher Bean was played to a larger house than Thursday night. Friday night the crowd was more responsive and the play ran a bit longer. Both performances were successful, produced by the junior college Little Theater. The next play will be in the second semester.
Announcement from the Messiah rehearsal notes the next practice will be at 7 p.m. next Friday at the Methodist church. Director Miss Carolyn Hamilton invites singers to bring a guest home for Thanksgiving who might join rehearsals. Choirs from various churches will combine for this year's Messiah performance.
Hugh J. Fowler of Ft. Dodge and Nick LeGrande of Davenport led visiting Spanish War Veterans to honor Albert M. Huff camp No. 26. A 36 member group shared a covered dish dinner in the courthouse G A R room and discussed future eastern Iowa camps meetings set for Davenport and other cities.
A county wide band is being organized by Milburn McKay of C G Conn Co to unite fine players from across Washington County for student level, structured rehearsals the second and fourth Tuesdays each month. Membership costs 50 cents annually and forfeiture after three consecutive absences. Instrumentation under consideration includes flutes clarinets saxophones brass and percussion sections.
Joe Falk, chairman of the decorations committee, says Washington will feature extensive festive displays ahead of Christmas. Due to tree shortages only a single large spruce from George Hopping will stand in Central Park, with greenery on electroliers and lamp post Santa heads. Lights are to be lit within a week or by Thanksgiving.

Congressman E C Eicher campaigns through Iowa County visiting Burlington and surrounding towns. He meets with the public at Hotel Burlington and plans to tour the district with his wife Mrs Eicher and secretary James Franc joining the trip. They depart after Christmas to return to Washington D C.

United Press reports that oil, crucial for planes and trucks, could decide the outcome between Italy and Ethiopia. Dutch and other nations weigh an embargo expansion to include oil, with the U S panel considering steps while monitoring cotton exports.
Des Moines Iowa November 28 a $25 reward was paid by Wallaces Farm and Iowa Homestead after Don Radda was arrested and convicted for stealing poultry from Clarence Fulton’s farm near Washington. Radda pled guilty and was sent to Fort Madison penitentiary for up to five years. Fulton and Roy Randall shared the reward for their cooperation.
The McKunes have relocated from 1027 East Adams Street to 1005 East Washington Street, updating their address with no additional details.
Dr. H. C. Hull hovers between Iowa and Northwestern as they clash in Evanston. He did pre medic work at Iowa and finished at Northwestern. A two year letter man in baseball at Iowa, he would rather Iowa win but his alma mater cannot lose.
