Columbus Community High mourns student death
Elizabeth Ann Clark 15 or 16, president of the sophomore class, collapsed during school activities at Columbus Community High School and died at 8:10 p.m. The Columbus Junction girl, daughter of Donald and Arlene Clark, had heart surgery as a child and was active in bands, yearbook, honors, and church. Funeral Sunday at 2:30 p.m. at United Methodist Church, burial in Columbus City Cemetery. Visitation after 11 a.m. Saturday at Stacy-Lewis Funeral Home. Survivors include her parents, four brothers, three sisters, and grandparents. Memorial fund for Heart Fund established.

Fire kills three in Hamburg family blaze
In Hamburg Iowa a pre dawn fire killed Lois Hansen 50 Joy Hansen 15 and Alta Small 70 all members of the same family. Lois Hansen's husband was away on a business trip and Gary Hansen escaped after a basement sleep. Fire marshal's office called in to determine the blaze's cause.

New Modular Ambulance Purchased for Washington County
Washington County Ambulance Service bought a modular self contained ambulance on a Chevrolet chassis from Foster Coach Sales Inc. for 26500 plus the trade in of a used unit. The old 1972 Oldsmobile high top limousine was retired after 70000 miles. The modular vehicle adds room for equipment and mobile care while the county continues to operate both the modular unit and a van type ambulance under Karl Jones.

Iowa patrol tests armor option for troopers
Iowa Highway Patrol distributed protective soft body armor to all 430 troopers at a total cost of 34,400 dollars this summer.
