Official returns from 81 of 99 counties show Guy M. Gillette with a 2,952 vote lead over Lester J. Dickinson in the Iowa Senate race. Totals: Gillette 433,859 Dickinson 410,907. A recount demand remains possible pending full county results and final review.
Forty one county Red Cross workers report 466 members counted with over two thirds yet to report. Has dkins school first to report 100 percent. Roger Sherman county chairman to present a 5x5 flag to Haskins. Workers urged to report Saturday at Red Cross HQ 21 South Marion avenue. Several offices and stores listed as 100 percent reported.
In Red Oak a county attorney Harold Bickford fails to convict Lloyd Conder in a driving while intoxicated case. After eight hours of jury deliberation the panel returns a not guilty verdict marking a first in Bickford's two year term.
Ames man Charles F. Finley president of Iowa State college was named to the executive committee of the Association of Land Grant Colleges and Universities meeting in Chicago. H. H. Kildee of Iowa State college was chosen chairman of the agriculture section.
Fire swept through the Ottumwa airport hangar destroying five airplanes. Motorists discovered the blaze but Ottumwa firefighters could not control it before it burned out. One plane belonged to Emil Cernich of Des Moines. Loss was estimated at 3500 dollars.
Charles City news notes C. G. Gray, a coal dealer, received an unsigned Illinois postmarked letter offering $18 as payment for past years of goods taken without his knowledge and asking forgiveness and forgetfulness.
Mrs. Eric Rosenquist, 55, of Red Oak was hospitalized with fractures to both legs after falling into a dry well at her home. Relatives heard the well door slam as she left, and found her at the bottom. Men entered the well to pull her out with ropes.
Three men posing as soil experts swindled a Linn County farmer of 125 dollars. They tested soil at his home near Marion then lured him to Cedar Rapids for a fraudulent card game before fleeing. The farmer’s name was not released.
Des Moines reports the Iowa motor vehicle department will purchase 39 new patrol cars at about 500 dollars each, replacing models in service since August 1 1923. Bids will be requested from Pontiac Ford and Chevrolet dealers across the state with purchases awarded to the lowest bidders in ten patrol districts.
In Pittsburgh on November 17 the CIO convention booed and hissed the name of Chairman Martin Dies of the House committee investigating un American activities.
The Supreme Court denied a petition to stay the execution of James Dalhover, a member of the Al Brady gang, who was sentenced to die in the electric chair in Indianapolis the next day.

Construction starts on a refrigerated locker building by Cooperative Service company on North Marion avenue. The farm business moves to a true cooperative as capital rises from 10 000 to 25 000 and Speer becomes cold storage department manager with HT Carris John A Stewart and H L Walker as officers. The plant aims to open by January 1 to store meat vegetables and other goods for months, aiding local farmers and residents.
Representatives from the Rotary club the Chamber of Commerce Y's Men and the Boy Scouts met at the U M C G A to plan financing Washington Scout activities A Washington Scout council will include three members from each group plus Troop F and the American Legion A follow up meeting is scheduled for Monday December 6 with a finance campaign to start then.

Harvey Eads was arrested on a charge of interfering with the administration of justice after County Attorney Raymond Wright alleged he threatened and attempted to influence the testimony of Helen Lemon, 17, a state witness, and he posted a $500 bond pending a hearing.
Mrs Nemo Boshart of Wayland died last night at her daughter Mrs Chris Boshart home after a fall and age related complications. Funeral arrangements by Boller Funeral Home with service likely tomorrow at the Wayland Mennonite church. Survived by five sons and two daughters including John Olds Amos Goshen Ind Omer Orus twins William and Mrs Frank Magdefray and Mrs Chris Boshart.
In Indianola Iowa Abe Ritchey mourns the death of his four year old son Paul William Ritchey who was accidentally shot when the father fired at a rabbit.

Automobiles driven by Elbert Redeker of Washington and R N Waggoner of Beaconsfield Iowa collided yesterday evening around six on the Washington River roadside near Ralph Zeck's home three miles northeast of town. Redeker sustained bruises and passenger Christine Spenler of Wayland suffered a severe head bump. Charley Spenler and Mr Wagoner were uninjured.
