Kansas City officials report optimism among cattlemen at the American Royal livestock and horse show. Leaders say lower feed costs and a stretch of cheap cattle production may cut costs and boost profits, with hopeful notes from sheep and hog men as more states and entries fill the exhibition grounds.
Walter E. Funk a 45 year old Denver candy salesman was kidnapped and held over 15 hours then the trio robbed the Plattville National Bank of 4000 dollars. They used Funk's car for the getaway and he was released near Greeley Colorado. Funk phoned his wife and said he was treated fine and released near that city. Floyd Carris and Wy erett Teets were in Washington Monday.
United Press reports Japan ready to reinforce Manchuria as Chinese General Ma Chan Shan stalls by offering to withdraw only after Japanese evacuation. Tokyo orders Ma to withdraw by Nov 25 and contemplates sending an army division. League of Nations holds secret session with both sides excluded.
Up to 1,006 delegates from a score of states attend the opening session of the national convention in Des Moines. Topics include the federal farm marketing act tariffs and taxation. Principal speaker Congressman Louis T. McFadden of Pennsylvania addresses the gathering.
Iowa faces freezing temperatures tonight with forecasts of 20 to 35 degrees across regions. Rain was general yesterday with notable amounts reported in Des Moines 0.98 inches and Davenport 0.26 inches while recent warmth peaked at 76 in Davenport and Keokuk. Winter settles over the Rockies with renewed snow and wind from Utah to Colorado.

Iowa national guard units move from Burlington to Fairfield to guard veterinarians conducting bovine tuberculin testing in Jefferson county. About 843 cavalrymen, 150 horses and 125 infantry from several units will set up at the Fairfield chautauqua grounds, with testing to begin tomorrow.

Judge Frank Reelity in district court signed an order directing the receiver of the Washington Loan and Trust company to start legal action against holders of capital stock in the company to levy and collect the statutory assessment on shares of stock to be applied on payment of claims of depositors and creditors. The application was signed by John Fletcher attorney general of Iowa and Wilson and Wilson, attorneys for the receiver. This is one of the routine matters in the liquidation of the closed trust company. BE. KF, Cline was in Davenport on business today.
After a Wednesday Fairfield game Coach Jim Shultz excused the first string from practice for a week while reserves trained. Yesterday the reserves faced the starters in offense drills and the team prepares for Keokuk Friday night at Case Field and the Thanksgiving showdown with Mt Pleasant, both in Little Six play.
University of Iowa cuts seating prices for the Iowa Northwestern clash at Kinnick Stadium. Tickets between the 30 yard lines stay at 5 dollars, general admission from the 10 to 30 yard lines is 2 dollars, and outside the ten yard lines is 1 dollar. The game ends Iowa's season and is expected to draw the year’s largest crowd.
Mrs H W Russell has taken a room at the Fitzwilliam home on East Main street for the winter, indicating a temporary residence arrangement during the cold season.

Oats and rye also advanced modestly as buyers stayed active amid profit taking. In Washington, foreign trade revived with October exports at 205 million dollars, about 25 million above September, while imports dipped slightly.
Stockholders at the reorganized First National Bank in Newton elected directors. Reopening awaits the U S Comptroller of Currency approval under an agreement requiring 5 000 depositors to sign waivers on 30 percent of their deposits.
Three members of the Detroit Purple gang Raymond Bernstein Harry Keywell and Irving Milberg were sentenced to life in Marquette state penitentiary for the massacre of three rival racketeers. The life sentence was mandatory upon conviction.
